7. A Rabid Decolonizer Castrating an Aspiring Patriarch on xyr Way to The Intersectional Temple (2018)
Filipino painter Manuel Ocampo is known for his fearless, visceral works that tackle societal taboos and powerful religious iconography. From popular western symbols to Filipino kitsch, art history, and literature, his works are loaded with satirical statements about the postmodern world – its doubts and instability. His distinct style of coarse brushwork, collage and use of vivid colour is enhanced in his experiments with the techniques of collagraph and screen-printing. This work is part of the artist’s most recent body of work, produced in collaboration with STPI.
