Glimpses
Sat 15 Jan- Sat 12 Feb
"Glimpses" presents a mix of vibrant works in etching, lithography, relief print and paper pulp works on BenCab’s recurrent theme for which he has become famous – what it means to be Filipina. BenCab's second residency at STPI embraced the spontaneous nature of paper pulp and employed a bold, new colour palette resulting in a series of expressive and vivid works based on familiar characters such as 'Sabel,' a symbol of grace and strength and the changing social fabric of contemporary Philippines.

Jumaldi Alfi
Melting Memories
Sat 26 Feb - Sat 26 Mar
In his poetic new works made at STPI, Indonesian artist Jumaldi Alfi continues his humanistic quest by exploring mortality and memories. These dense constructions intermingle layers of text with his famous motifs of the rock, skull and cactus. Inspired by the Greek mythology of Sisyphus, whose story tells of a man’s futile attempts to attain meaning, these works at STPI reveal the artist’s introspective nature and his questions about death and one’s purpose in life.

Do-Ho Suh
Sat 9 Apr- Sat 7 May
New boundaries are pushed at STPI in the latest series of meticulous thread drawings and prints by internationally renowned, Korean artist Do-Ho Suh. Suh explores themes of identity and displacement in new ephemeral works on paper, a continuation of his earlier site-specific installations in two dimensions, creating one of STPI’s largest etchings . Several of his new works portray isolated figures with shadowlike forms hovering over them, which are based on the artist’s “belief that one is not exactly one” but of many different invisible things such as personal histories and experiences.

David Hockney: Through the Eyes of the Artist
Prints from Singapore Art Museum Tyler Collection
STPI Summer Show
Bold, luscious colours, dynamic lines and curves fill the walls of STPI with Singapore Art Museum Tyler Collection’s works on paper from British giant David Hockney. This survey of Hockney’s works not only follows his artistic development throughout the years, but pays homage to some key figures of inspiration such as Matisse and Picasso. Best known for his chic, minimal portrayals of Los Angeles, California, these works on paper reveal Hockney’s unique eye into the people and environment around him and show how Hockney’s deft and experimental printing techniques are a true testament to the legacy he had with Master printer Kenneth Tyler. Do not miss this opportunity to see why Hockney is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century.

Shambhavi Singh
Lonely Furrow
The root of Shambhavi Singh’s works is grounded in her native land of Bihar, India. Her oeuvre, ranging from paintings, installations and sculptures, explores her concerns for the displaced. The series of works created during her residency at STPI continues her focus on rural workers. Through motifs symbolising common tools used by land labourers, Singh expresses her concern for those often marginalised and captures the strength and spirit of these people. Her works continue to remind us of our connection with the land and more broadly, with one another.

Teresita Fernández
Night Writing
American artist, Teresita Fernández, is recognised for her sublime sculptures and installations responding to nature. Her works aim to create an intimate experience, with viewers playing a pivotal role in completing the works’ meaning and visual significance. Continuing this interplay between nature and perception, Fernández has created a new series of works at STPI focusing on the dramatic experience of looking at the night sky. Each unique pulp work is punctuated with Braille-like perforated patterns that recall constellations. The mirror seen through the perforations captures the viewer's movement, reflecting colours and light, making the passerby physically aware of themselves in the space while simultaneously animating the surface of the works.
